Departs 24th Jun 2017

Single person supplement : £30.00 per person

Make a date in your diary for next June as we beat a path to Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, and now home to the 11th Duke of Marlborough. This extravagant edifice caused controversy from the outset of its build, but in time it has become one of Britain's best–loved stately piles. From the award–winning gardens and the great lake to the gilded state rooms and Old Masters, this is Baroque England's finest hour.

The Palace is hosting the Blenheim Palace Flower Show for the fifth time in 2017, after another successful year in 2016. Set in 2100 acres of sweeping parkland landscaped by the legendary Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, Blenheim is a magnificent setting for this event which celebrates everything floral from award–winning nurseries to the Grand Floral Marquee, garden landscapes, advice sessions, nurseries and trade stalls, gardening celebrities and experts who can help you transform your garden. For a £10pp supplement you can upgrade your ticket to include admission to Blenheim Palace itself.

So join us for a weekend of horticultural and cultural inspiration - your friends will be green–fingered with envy!

Saturday We depart in the morning from your local area and head for Stratford–upon–Avon, the Warwickshire wattle and daub birthplace of William Shakespeare, and indeed the place where he also breathed his last 400 years ago in 1616. The famous Ann Hathaway Cottage is just a mile out of town, or you could head for the Old Town's Sheep Street and the award–winning Tudor World, built on the site of Shrieves House and once the original abode of William Rogers, friend of the Shakespeares and reputedly the inspiration behind the character of John Falstaff. If you're mad for modernity, just down the road from Shakespeare's house on Henley Street is the MAD Museum of Mechanical Art and Design, where Heath Robinson meets arthouse automata crossed with steampunk gizmos and water–powered whirligigs (note that wheelchair access is limited as it is an old building). For the naturalist there is a butterfly farm, a quick flutter across the nearby bridge, in a landscaped greenhouse full of ponds, waterfalls ... and butterflies. For the resolutely sedate there are open air sightseeing tour buses, and three different boat operators offering scenic boat trips at modest rates. In the mid to late afternoon we'll rejoin the coach and continue to your hotel in time for your 3–course dinner and overnight stay.

Sunday Fortified with a full English breakfast, we travel by coach to Blenheim Palace, in full bloom as it hosts its newly–established flower show. The stunning 25,000 sq.ft Grand Floral Marquee forms the centerpiece of the show and plays host to a selection of the UK's finest nurseries. It's the perfect place to speak to expert growers and plantsmen and women and admire the best of British gardening. See the stunning show gardens, visit the NAFAS floral art marquee for their stunning flower arrangements, shop in the Plant Village for quality plants, the Outdoor Village selling garden accoutrements from tools to garden ornaments to garden furniture, or the Indoor Village with its wide selection of gifts and crafts.

After an inspirational day at Blenheim, we rejoin the coach for home in the mid to late afternoon.
